A
family owned and operated restaurant since 1988, L'Europe is located
just minutes from downtown New Canaan and Ridgefield, Connecticut. Little
has changed physically inside this French restaurant since we opened.
We offer a relaxing dining experience where sparkling appointments grace
the tables with attentive, yet unobtrusive service providing delicious
French fare.
L'Europe
restaurant graciously serves lunch and dinner from Tuesday through Sunday.
We offer a Sunday brunch enjoyed in a relaxed environment, which many
regulars relish for its dignified hush. The restaurant is closed Mondays.
Reservations are recommended, especially for dinner. We are also known
for our private dining room with fireplace and lovely garden deck where
patrons enjoy private parties ranging from elegant weddings to intimate
lunches for businesspeople, local community groups and charities. No
detail is too small for us when we plan and create your party.
Our wine selection offers a vast selection of
French, some Italian and American wines, which we have carefully and
tastefully selected over many years. The bar has a wide choice of spirits
for an aperitif or cocktail.
Our
menu features old favorites, which our clientele request and repeatedly
applaud. Appetizers are creative and delicious. One might consider sampling
our snails in a champagne sauce with garlic served over puff pastry
or one might try our fresh mussels served with white cream sauce, fresh
leeks, and garlic. If these lightly garlic flavored appetizers do not
tempt your palate, another popular appetizer is our fresh asparagus
served hot over puff pastry with a ragout of wild mushrooms.
Our entrees appeal to a wide variety of palates.
Our crisp roast duckling is prepared to your taste and served with a
choice of five tantalizing and distinct sauces.
Seafood and fish entrees are a specialty at
L'Europe. For example, our steamed lobster and scallops sautéed
with butter and vegetables is as simple as it is delectable. We prepare
salmon many tantalizing ways. One might prefer the broiled salmon steak
garnished with caviar; salmon filet encrusted with sesame seeds laced
in a gingery sauce and served on a bed of lemon grass; or salmon slathered
with a mousse of sole topped with lobster meat, which is wrapped whole
and baked en croute. Some regulars request our filet of sole wrapped
around a core of salmon mousse and served with a butter sauce and shrimp
garnish.
For
those who enjoy heartier fare, our superb medallions of filet mignon
prepared au Richelieu is divine when prepared with our port wine sauce
and a mélange of domestic and wild mushrooms. Our tender rack-of-lamb,
prepared for two, is rubbed with herbs and remains, over many years,
a L'Europe favorite. We roast free-range baby chicken and serve it with
tarragon sauce and spaetzle. Vegans are extremely satisfied with our
fettucine in a parmesan cream sauce with mushrooms and vegetables.
Game is always represented on our menu. We serve
quail stuffed with mushrooms, goose liver, and veal wrapped in puff
pastry, then sliced and served with truffle sauce.
Our soups are very popular. A summer favorite
is the cold Senegalaise soup, which we sprinkle with bits of chutney.
In cooler weather patrons enjoy the clear-tasting soup of mussels and
leeks, consommé of duckling with fois gras royale.
Desserts at L'Europe are our specialty and are
prepared daily. Many customers enjoy L'Europe for our souffles. The
Gran Marnier and Chocolate soufflés are not to be missed. For
those seeking simpler desserts, we offer fresh fruit such as strawberries
and/or raspberries with a Bavaroise sauce. Vanilla
crème Brulee, white and dark chocolate mousse complimented by
fruit sauce, a cheese with fresh fruit platter or delice cake, are other
delectable finishing touches to a fine meal at our family owned and
operated restaurant.
Over the years, L'Europe has developed a steady
clientele, many of whom we call our friends. We hope that you will visit
L'Europe us and become a part of the many who recommend L'Europe restaurant
to their friends and family.
